Regional Watershed Alliance Meeting #1/24 was held via video conference, on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 pursuant to section C.12 of the TRCA’s Board of Directors Administrative By-Law. The Chair, Anna-Louise Richardson, called the meeting to order at 6:38 p.m.

The Chair recited the Acknowledgement of Indigenous Territory.

Victoria Kramkowski, Senior Manager, Government & Community Relations thanked departing members of the RWA: Lucia Piccinni from Evergreen and Regional Councillor Gurpartap Singh Toor from Peel. Victoria welcomed new members: Katie Doreen, watershed resident of York Region, Humber River Watershed, Councillor Mario Russo from Caledon, and former MP for King-Vaughan, Deb Schulte.

    WHEREAS TRCA’s Youth Council has been active for five years with the 2023-2024 Youth Council Executive having completed their most recent one-year term;

    THEREFORE LET IT BE RESOLVED THAT the Youth Council Executive’s term be extended for an additional year in 2024-2025 for those members who are eligible and wish to continue;

    THAT RWA endorses the recruitment of additional Youth Council Executives to fill vacant seats for the 2024-2025 term;

    THAT RWA appoints two Youth Council Executives to fill Youth representative roles on RWA for 2024;

    AND FURTHER THAT RWA accepts the Youth Council Annual Report, attached as Attachment 1, which summarizes the work completed and evaluates the Youth Council’s 2023-2024 term.

    WHEREAS TRCA delivers programs and services that foster and enable a climate resilient society;

    AND WHEREAS TRCA’s Sustainable Communities Business Unit offers services in this area that may be of interest to TRCA’s Regional Watershed Alliance (RWA);

    THEREFORE LET IT BE RESOLVED THAT the staff report on TRCA’s Sustainable Communities’ work be received;

    AND THAT RWA members support Sustainable Communities work where feasible and appropriate;

Victoria Kramkowski, Senior Manager, Government & Community Relations advised members on being mindful of external distribution of RWA emails and invitations intended for RWA members only.  

Victoria Kramkowski announced a planting event taking place on Sunday, June 2 in memory of Michael White, a former Regional Watershed Alliance member and TRCA volunteer. 

Victoria Kramkowski reminded members of two upcoming tours: The Archetype Sustainable House on Thursday, April 11 and the Meadoway on Friday, August 23. Members are to RSVP to the meeting invitations to confirm attendance.
